Cockrell Hill Fire Chief Loses Fight With Cancer
COCKRELL HILL (CBSDFW.COM) - The City of Cockrell Hill lowered the flag at half mast to honor Fire Chief Michael Burns who died Thursday night from cancer.
"He has been the largest reason this department has grown and developed as it has," according to a representative from the Cockrell Hill Fire Department. "As a talented medic and great friend, he will be missed by our members as well as by his family and co-workers at Children's Medical Center."
Burns, 42, hadn't responded to two 911 calls Friday morning, and a member of the fire department was sent to the chief's home for a welfare check when his body was found.
The chief, who started fighting fires at the age of 17, battled cancer for two years.
Chief Burns funeral will be held on Wednesday, May 8. The service, at The Potter's House on West Kiest Boulevard in Dallas, begins at 10 a.m.
A parade will also be held in his honor that day.
