City Of Dallas Passes LGBT Equality Resolution
DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - The city of Dallas has passed a resolution, enforcing equality for Gay, Lesbian, Bi-sexual and Transgender employees, residents, and visitors.
The resolution will likely mean extending healthcare and pension benefits to the families of LGBT employees. It also calls on the city of Dallas to support LGBT legislation where it can.
Ahead of the vote, several people spoke in favor of the change.
"The bottom line of this resolution and the actions that would flow from this resolution would provide substantial benefits to the health, success, and well-being of all the citizens of the city of Dallas," said Samuel Tournabene.
The resolution doesn't change any existing laws, and comes after city council has discussed same sex marriage benefits for months. That issue still has not been resolved.
It does push Dallas City Manager A.C. Gonzales to look for issues in the pension plan.
Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings said he supports the resolution.
