Citizens Help Plano Cop Catch Robbery Suspect

PLANO (CBSDFW.COM) - Police in Plano are crediting two regular citizens with helping an officer take a robbery suspect into custody. The incident started at about 8:15 p.m. on Saturday night when authorities were made aware of a robbery in the 8800 block of Ohio Drive.
A police officer arrived at the scene and witnessed the robbery suspect running north into Frisco. That officer started to chase the suspect on foot, catching up him in the 2900 block of Preston Road, in the parking lot of a restaurant located about a mile away from the crime scene. However, the suspect did not give in so easily.
While attempting to arrest the male suspect, police explained, there was a struggle as the man tried to resist. Two people from inside of the restaurant saw what was happening and ran outside to help the police officer. According to David Tilley with the Plano Police Department, "Their assistance ultimately allowed the officer to place the suspect into handcuffs and gain control of him."
The Plano Police Department said Monday on their Facebook page that one of those brave citizens was Assistant Chief Stuart Blasingame with the Prosper Fire Department. He was eating dinner with his wife when he heard the officer giving commands to the suspect. Blasingame left his table and headed outside.
The fleeing suspect saw Blasingame and changed directions, giving the officer an opportunity to make the arrest. Police have not released the name of the other citizen who helped out.
The suspect was later identified as 20-year-old Alejandro Faber Jr. of McKinney. He has been charged with robbery, unlawful carrying of a weapon and evading arrest. He is being held at the Collin County Detention Center while authorities continue to investigate this case.
