Cincy Now The Center Of Hoops World
There is no doubt that the state of Ohio, and more specifically the city of Cincinnati, is the center of the college basketball world this week.
Amazingly, half of the "Sweet Sixteen" teams are within 312 miles of Cincinnati. Seven of them are 156 or fewer miles away, four are from the state of Ohio, and two are located in Cincinnati itself.
Furthermore, a dozen of the remaining NCAA Tournament teams are at most an eight-hour drive from Cincy, within 526 miles. Fourteen are within 800 miles, and all 16 are no more than 1027 miles from the Queen City.
Let's put this into geographical perspective for those of us in North Texas. In terms of proximity to the city of Dallas, this would be like our area having SMU, TCU, North Texas, Baylor, Texas A&M, Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Texas Tech, LSU, Kansas, Kansas State, Missouri, UTEP and Iowa State all advancing to the Sweet Sixteen in the same year.
Compare the Sweet Sixteen's proximity to the University of Cincinnati with that of an ultra-fantasized DFW Dream Sweet Sixteen field:
