Church Of Those Slain in Arlington Shooting Sets Up Fund

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - Tabernacle Baptist Church in Arlington has set up a fund to help the families of three people killed in a domestic shooting last week, but with only 100 members the church is asking for help.

Dalton James Bennett Jr. was arrested for the shooting. Bennett's wife, Sheryl, a male friend of hers, and another family member were all killed. Sheryl's brother, Johnny Todd, was seriously injured after being shot in the neck.

Donnie King, grandfather of Sheryl and Johnny, said that many of their children witnessed the aftermath of the shooting – including 12-year-old Michael, who saw his mother, Sheryl, die. "They seen their mother on the floor," he said. "Michael went in, seen his mother, she looked up and said I love you, gasped, and died."

Robin Webb, pastor of Tabernacle, is leading the charge to assist the family. "As explosive and violent as that was, the greater tragedy will be played out in the lives of the children," declared the pastor, who said he has been getting calls from all over the country with offers to help.

King said donations of money would make the most difference since the family will require long-term care. "Johnny's not going to be able to work," he said. "Sheryl's kids got nobody but me and my wife."

Johnny has been released from the hospital but is still facing months of recovery.

King said that if it wasn't for Tabernacle, he might not have been able to make it through the tragic event. "I'd be with my kids right now. I could not have made it."

The church is accepting donations both at their location and on its website.
