Church Members Fast To Encourage 5th Circuit Decision On Executive Action Case

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) — Members and parishioners of a Dallas church plan to fast on Sunday to encourage a decision from the U.S. Fifth Circuit of Appeals on the Texas-led lawsuit regarding President Barack Obama's executive action on immigration.
Members and parishioners of Iglesia Apostolica de la Fe en Cristo Jesus and Texas Organizing Project are joining immigrant families in New Orleans currently fasting to urge the Fifth Circuit to issue a decision on Gov. Greg Abbott's lawsuit against the Obama administration, according to a press release. The fast will last one day at the church.
The executive action issued in 2014 would grant immigrants who have come to the U.S. illegally temporary work permits without fear of deportation. The immigrants must have lived in the U.S. for at least five years and have no criminal record.
This is not the first time the Texas Organizing Project has planned an event regarding immigration. Earlier this year, the group organized a march in downtown Dallas.
If the Fifth Circuit issues a decision by the end of October, there will be enough time file an appeal to the Supreme Court, according to the press release. But if a decision doesn't come soon, it will "leave those millions of families in limbo and at risk of deportation and separation," the press release says.
