Christmas Wish For Justice In Donut Shop Murder

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - It was a child's Christmas letter, but it wasn't for Santa.

"Dear officer Craig Miller, the first thing I'd like to say is Merry Christmas," wrote the 11-year-old girl.

She had just one thing on her wish list.  "Even though you are not Santa Claus, the wishes for my Christmas are for you and the criminals who killed my Dad… Please find the criminals," she wrote.

For Dallas Police Deputy Chief Craig Miller, it was a request he didn't take lightly.  "I don't think anything has probably affected me as much from a crime victim as much as this did."

It was one year ago this week the owner of a Dallas donut shop on the 300 block of East Ledbetter was murdered.  Kee Shun Chung was working in the shop, wearing a Santa hat, when his killers burst through the front door.

Surveillance video shows they were there for just 17 seconds, but in that time, they shot and killed Chung.  In their rush to escape, police say they didn't even steal anything.

Chung's daughters later wrote letters to Miller.  "I believe in you, Officer Miller," wrote the oldest daughter, then 14-years-old.

"When someone compares you to Santa Claus and is counting you to be the individual that catches whoever killed their parent, that's a great deal of pressure," said Miller.

In his 29 years at the Dallas police department, Miller has overseen more than 700 murder investigations.  This one is different.  "There have been very few of these in my time where I felt personally attached to the investigation, but in this one I really do."

While he has yet to make these little girls' Christmas wishes comes true, he says he is still trying.  "They had faith in me a year ago, and I hope they still have that level of faith in me today."

If anyone has information on this case, you can call Crime Stoppers at 214-373-TIPS.  There is a $15,000 reward.
