Choppy: The Kings Are The Latest NBA Soap Opera
The sports world saw its biggest soap opera get a new twist this week.
Looks like the Kings are going to "retain" George Karl. This after they said they were gonna fire him. What a trainwreck the Kings are. I wouldn't be surprised if they cancel a players 10 day contact, 10 minutes into it.
Meanwhile the NBA has already seen a few coaches get fired, the NFL whacked a bunch of them, and other sports seem to fire them quite easily these days
It got me thinking how lucky we are locally that we have 4 coaches who either have been here 5 years or have ZERO chances of getting kicked out in the coming years
I'm a big proponent of continuity being a big reason for success, and the Cowboys and Mavs have stuck by their coaches. Jerry after 8-8 times 3, and the Mavs after a few early exits for Rick before the title
Meanwhile. the Stars and Rangers aren't letting go of either of their guys anytime soon.
We are spoiled here. We have great Play By Play guys calling our games (even that Legends guy!), terrific owners who either stay out of harms way or aren't afraid to spend, and at the very least, 3 really good coaches if you don't believe in Jason, and I do believe in him.
Sure, we may not win a ton of titles recently, but we don't have to worry about the petty crap and constant change that so many organizations and cities deal with regularly. Cleveland has a new coach in 66% of their sports. Look how many coaches are on the hot seat elsewhere.
There's something to be said for that. I love drama as much as the next guy...other people's drama.
You don't win without consistency, and you don't get consistency by changing year after year, just ask Cleveland. We're really lucky...now if we can just get lucky on the field.
