Corsicana Boy Dies After Accidental Shooting

CORSICANA (CBSDFW.COM) - A young boy died Wednesday night after a self-inflicted shooting in Corsicana, officials said. The Dallas County Medical Examiner identified the child as 2-year-old Kinsler Allen Davis.

Chief Randy Bratton of the Corsicana Police Department explained that the child accidentally shot himself in the head at his home in the 300 block of North 30th Street, just after 8:45 p.m. on Wednesday night. Bratton said that the child was taken by ambulance to Navarro Regional Hospital in Corsicana. An air ambulance then took the boy to Children's Medical Center of Dallas, where he later died.

"All information and physical evidence indicates the shooting was accidental," Bratton detailed in a statement. "The child found a handgun inside a bedroom and then discharged it, striking himself in the head." Bratton said the boy's father was in another room at the time. No one else was home.

"As you can imagine, they're extremely upset and distraught," said Bratton about the child's family.

There were no immediate plans Thursday to charge the parents, Bratton said. "The investigation is still in the initial stages," Bratton said. "When it's completed, we'll refer the case to the Navarro County District Attorney's Office."
