Chief Details 911 Delay In CBS Radio Building Shooting
DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - Police may be getting closer to finding the person or persons responsible for shooting at the windows of two Dallas high-rise buildings.
On November 30 several bullets went through the outside panes of glass on two floors of the CBS Radio building, located off of Central Expressway and Fitzhugh Avenue.
Monday Dallas police Chief David Brown gave an update on the shooting investigations during a public safety committee meeting for the Dallas City Council. He said they think the shootings may have been vandalism, but some leads could point them in a more serious direction and charging those responsible with, "A deadly conduct or keeping it at a criminal mischief, based on the information they [investigators] get," Chief Brown explained.
Information on the person or persons responsible is limited since Dallas police didn't arrive at the 12-story CBS building in time to see any potential suspects. During the city council meeting Chief Brown said the time gap was a result of mislabeled 911 calls. He said that the, "…about 45 minute delay was due to higher priority calls being held at that time when that particular call came in."
The chief said the call was identified as criminal mischief, instead of something more serious. "The two types of criminal offenses that is could be is, one - a criminal mischief, or it could be what's called a deadly conduct," Brown said. "We believe reasonable judgment was used by the 911 call taker, in coding the call, as a criminal mischief in progress."
Investigators told KRLD NewsRadio 1080 that the person who fired the shots on the CBS Radio building most likely used a rifle and was standing atop a nearby parking garage. Last week, a building near Interstate-635 and Hillcrest was also fired on.
As far as the investigation into the separate incidents Chief Brown said detectives have made some headway. "They're in the process of gaining, obviously, additional information. I believe there are some leads in a couple of those."
Bullets fired at the CBS Radio building hit the window of the KRLD promotions director and shattered the outer glass of a window on the corner of the KRLD Newsroom. Two other bullets hit the window directly above the KRLD newsroom.
No one was injured in the shooting at either high-rise building.
