Chick-fil-A "Kiss-In" Protest Set For Tonight
DALLAS (CBS 11 NEWS) - Thousands showed-up to support Chick-fil-A restaurants a couple of days ago. Now, gay activists are taking their turn in the food fight.
They're planning a National Same Sex Kiss-In at the very same Chick-fil-A restaurants.
One of the event's coordinators is Flower Mound native, Carly McGehee, who now lives in New York.
So far, the protest turn-out is chicken feed compared to the thousands of people who showed-up to support Chick-fil-A.
"A lot of people can't take the repercussions in their jobs, with their neighbors, with their families. Discrimination is alive and well against the GLBT community," said Pam Buchmuyer.
"By being here for a kiss, I believe we represent hundreds of people who support the boycott against Chick-fil-A." Buchmyer said.
"I have friends whose families don't even speak to them now that they've identified themselves as gay or lesbian," Shellie Crandall said.
"What we want you to see is there are people out here that do support it and we're out here standing for everybody," said Crandall.
There was a beef between protesters and one man who supports the chicken chain and the CEO's financial backing for "traditional marriage."
Mick Garr told the protester, "But that's his money to do with what he wants."
The protester countered, "It sure is. But, I'm not telling him what to do with his money. I'm telling him I'm not giving him anymore of my money."
Garr told him, "Then don't eat there."
Garr didn't think he could stomach the National Same Sex Kiss In.
"I think it's lewd and lascivious. I wouldn't want to see straight couples out here kissing because I don't think it's appropriate," he said.
The food fight is expected to take flight on social media. Kayla Foster, who brought poster boards and markers said, "A lot of people are going to come kiss in front of the signs, uploading their pictures to Twitter, Facebook pages, to Instagram."
"The only thing everybody wants is just to be accepted as everybody else," she added.
The kiss in starts at 7pm at Chick-fil-A restaurants in North Texas and across the country
