Chase Suspect Says "Mama Bear" Assaulted Him

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - A Dallas man, who claims that he was beaten by a so-called "mama bear" after leading police on a high-speed chase back in February, said that he is not the true criminal in the case. In a jailhouse interview, Artrai Alexander told KRLD that he wants the Dallas mom who confronted him charged with assault.

In February, Jessica Liesmann was on her way to pick up her daughter from school with her boyfriend and 13-year-old son when, while stopped at a red light in a school zone, Alexander slammed into the back of her minivan.

Alexander claimed that, when Liesmann jumped out of her minivan to confront him, she slapped him. "I got knots and bruises on my head from it. My head was messed up," Alexander said from the Dallas County Jail.

"That's insane," said Liesmann, when learning about Alexander's claim. "I did grab him, but I didn't assault him."

Alexander, who was charged with aggravated robbery and evading arrest, also said that, if detectives would review the surveillance video, they would see that he never carjacked anyone. Plus, the only reason, he said, that he led police on a high-speed chase was because he feared police brutality.

For at least one Dallas mom, it all sounds like an excuse.

"I'm sorry that he feels that way and I'm sorry that he had to run into the back of my car," said Liesmann. "But I didn't chase him. I had nothing to do with it. This is his doing."
