Charles Stobaugh Found Guilty Of Killing Estranged Wife In 2004
DENTON (CBSDFW.COM) - A Denton County jury found Charles Stobaugh guilty Wednesday of murdering his estranged wife, who was last seen at his Sanger home in 2004.
Kathy Stobaugh disappeared on Dec. 24, 2004, after she went alone to visit Charles Stobaugh, 55, in his Sanger home. Stobaugh was arrested five years after the disappearance and charged with murder. Her body was never found.
The trial began Jan. 24, and it took jurors nearly 10 hours Wednesday to reach a verdict. The punishment phase of the trial will begin at 11 a.m. Thursday.
"It's been frustrating," said the victim's brother, Chris Munday last month. "It's like our life stopped to a certain point but the world around us kept going."
It was an emotional night in the courtroom. When the judge ruled the verdict, Charles Stobaugh's son and daughter, who have supported their father since the beginning, burst into tears.
Kathy's family was overwhelmed with emotion, hugging each other and thankful to find closure.
