CDC To Offer Free AIDS Tests At Local Drugstores
(CBS/AP) - A new pilot program sponsored by the CDC will offer quick HIV tests at local drugstores.
On Tuesday the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced that the $1.2 million program will offer free rapid HIV tests at pharmacies and in-store clinics in several North Texas cities and 23 other cities and rural communities across the country.
Drugstores now offer blood pressure checks, flu shots and a few other types of health services. Officials are hoping testing for the AIDS virus will become another routine service.
Several public and private organizations are teaming up with local health departments and AIDS organizations to provide free HIV testing at 47 Walgreens stores in 20 cities across the nation between June 27-29 in support of National HIV Testing Day.
