CBS, NFL Network To Partner On Thursday Night Football In 2014
NEW YORK (CBSDFW.COM) -- CBS and the NFL Network are teaming up to produce and televise Thursday Night Football for the 2014 season.
The two networks will simulcast eight early season games on Thursday night, with the NFL Network carrying eight late season games -- including two Saturday matchups.
"NFL Network built Thursday into a night for NFL fans," said NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell. "Our goal is to bring these games to more fans on broadcast television with unprecedented promotion and visibility for Thursday Night Football on CBS."
CBS will produce all 16 games with its lead broadcasters and production team, including Jim Nantz and Phil Simms for all Thursday night games.
NFL Network hosts and personalities will be featured in pregame, halftime, and postgame coverage, along with CBS Sports announcers.
The agreement is for the 2014 season, though the NFL has an additional year's option.
"We are very pleased to build on our outstanding partnership with the NFL by expanding our coverage to Thursday nights," said CBS Corporation President and CEO Leslie Moonves. "CBS is a premium content company and the NFL represents the best premium content there is. I look forward to all this new deal will do for us not only on Thursday nights, but across our entire schedule."
Local TV critic Ed Bark spoke with KRLD's Chris Sommer and discussed what the partnership could mean for CBS and the NFL.
