CBS 11 Tests Amazon's New 1 Hour Delivery In Dallas
DALLAS (CBS 11 NEWS) - They haven't gone to drones yet, but Amazon is promising one-hour delivery service for selected areas in northwest Dallas County.
It's called Prime Now, and it can deliver tens of thousands of items from this giant warehouse in Coppell to select zip codes in North Dallas County. The Amazon Prime Service costs 99-dollars a year and requires downloading a Prime App. There's a 7-dollar 99-cent fee for every one hour delivery. If you can wait two days, delivery is free. But Amazon says its customers never ask for things to be shipped slower.
"It offers one-hour deliver on tens of thousands of daily essentials," according to Kelly Cheeseman, Amazon spokeswoman. "If you've ever been out of toothpaste or toilet paper, you know that sometimes you want it quickly and now we'll bring it right to your door in an hour or less."
Right now, a Prime App is needed to order items, and that means registering online. " We do offer free 30-day trials so you can sign up to test having a Prime membership and see how you like having the Prime Now service," according to Cheeseman. But be aware you will be automatically enrolled at the end of the 30-day period unless to notify Amazon you don't want the service.
CBS 11's Bud Gillett ordered a doggie toy for his pet Rascal, and the delivery took about 20 minutes.
The zip codes that can accept one-hour delivery are: 75207, 75219, 75209, 75204, 75205, 75226, 75215, 75242, 75201, 75206, 75223, 75202, 75222, 75063, 75261, 75038, 75039, 75062, 75061, 76155, 76039, 75247, 75390, and 75235
