Carroll ISD Sends Summary Of Findings Into Football Program Violations To UIL

SOUTHLAKE, Texas (CBS11) - A new report alleges the Southlake Carroll High School football program violated UIL rules.

Head football coach Hal Wasson was suspended last month.

Wasson has not been publicly accused of any kind of wrong-doing, but the new report zeroed in on four UIL violations.

According to Carroll ISD, coaches held camps during summer months when they weren't supposed to under UIL rules.

There were also spring camps involving sixth graders that happened when they shouldn't have.

Second, Practices were held after school during the offseason.

UIL rules restrict offseason workouts to one period, during the school day.

Football players were required to workout for the football program on days they had games for other sports.

The report also found that coaches still under contract with other districts coached at Carroll.

UIL requires coaches to be full-time employees.

Tiger Hanner, the attorney Coach Wasson released the following statement Friday evening:

"Unfortunately, we received the report at the same time as the media.  After having a short time to review it, I can only paraphrase Paul Harvey and say that Coach Wasson can't wait to share the rest of the story.  The report is obviously lacking names, dates and details.  When we bring those forward, the Carroll community will quickly see how flawed and inaccurate this report truly is. Coach Wasson looks forward to clearing his name and his program."

Last week, Carroll ISD met behind closed doors to discuss Wasson's future.

Meanwhile, parents came out to urge the district to allow him to return to his position, which he's held for the last 11 years.

With eight state football championships, the Southlake Carroll Dragons are tied for the most in Texas high school football.
