PLANO (CBSDFW.COM) - A suspected car thief was taken to the hospital after a short police chase and a crash that left a stolen car flipped upside down in the road. The crash took place Thursday afternoon in the 900 block of East 14th Street.

According to David Tilley with the Plano Police Department, a woman called authorities to report that her car had been stolen in Garland on Thursday morning. She later spotted the vehicle in Plano and was able to give police a general idea of where the car was heading.

Officers found the vehicle in the 1700 block of East 14th Street, with one suspect inside. When those officers attempted to pull over the driver, that individual instead started to flee. Due to the high rate of speed, officers were unable to give chase for very long, Tilley explained.

However, the suspect soon sped over railroad tracks and ended up bumping into another vehicle. The stolen car flipped over and came to a rest in the middle of the road.

The suspect was taken to an area hospital. His name and condition are not known. Police have not said what charges he may now face. The driver of the other vehicle was not hurt.
