Car Starts Fire After Crashing Into Dallas Home

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - A home in east Dallas is in ruins after a strange series of events. The incident began early Monday morning – just after midnight – a short distance away from the house, which is in the 2000 block of Oates Circle.

The events started with a vehicle burglary. A witness called 911 after spotting a man who was breaking into a car. That witness followed the suspect, who started to flee the scene at a high speed. While the witness was still talking to 911 dispatchers, the suspect passed a police car that was sitting on the side of the road.

The suspect then crashed the stolen vehicle into the garage of the east Dallas home after first colliding with two cars that were sitting in the home's driveway. This crash started a fire that quickly spread through the house.

The family inside the home was awakened by the crash and not injured during the ordeal. Meanwhile, the suspect was pulled from the vehicle by Dallas Police Department officers and taken to Parkland Hospital in Dallas to be treated for minor burns.

"I've been here 20 years," said homeowner Chris Cramer, fighting back tears. "But now, guess I'll have to start over."
