IRVING (CBSDFW.COM ) - Irving police are looking for a man who may have taken advantage of a woman left stranded by a car accident.

Kim Smith says she counted in her head as her car flipped three times then landed upside down.

"It was pretty scary, " she said. "I couldn't get any of the doors open and the seat belt was jammed."

It took several minutes to escape. As she crawled out a window, she felt relieved to see a man approach.

"Because so many cars had driven by before someone finally stopped when I was still trapped and hanging upside down, it was really scary to feel alone."

The man helped her find her purse, handed it to her, then walked to his car. He promised he wouldn't leave, but then he did just that. It was later Smith says she realized he hadn't left empty-handed.

"He was gone, and I didn't have a wallet," she said.

But, being victimized wasn't even the hardest part, she says.

"What I think was worse is that… people weren't stopping," she said.

Smith says she stood on the roadside waving and pleading.

"Please call 911. Help me please, help me. I don't have my phone," she recalls saying.

"It's a horrible situation to be in and for people to slow down and take pictures and then keep going," she said in disbelief.
Smith's parents are grateful she walked away with nothing more than bruises.

"The moment when I saw her car and how bad it looked that's when I just… almost lost it," said Teresa Smith. "just didn't think anyone could survive something like that."

The family only wonders why a helping hand was so hard to find.

"You just want to ask people - Why? Why wouldn't you want to stop? Because if it was you, we would stop. You would want us to stop and help you," said Steve Smith.

Irving Police say the not-so-Good-Samaritan was driving a red pick-up truck. Police say they are checking to see if any cameras caught him.
