Car Chase Ends With Child Hit By Bullet
TERRELL (CBSDFW.COM) - A high-speed chase through Northeast Texas leads to a wreck and officer involved shooting that sent a child to the hospital.
The chase and shooting ended just north of Highway 80 near Terrell.
The chase, which started around 2:00 p.m. in Greenville, headed north to Commerce before turning around and moving down to Kaufman County. At one point the driver attempted to run over an officer. The chase ended when the driver was stopped after officers used road spike strips for a second time.

Corporal Robert White with the Texas Department of Public Safety says once the car crashed officers opened fire on the car. The driver was taken by air ambulance to Parkland Hospital in Dallas.
A child sitting in a booster seat inside the vehicle was grazed by a bullet and was transported to Dallas' Children's Medical Center. The age and condition of the child is unknown, but the injures are said to be non-life threatening.
The driver was identified Monday evening as Steven Capps of Caddo Mills. The child, who has not been named, has been identified as his son.
The car belongs to a woman from Greenville, but it is unknown if she had any connection to Capps.
White says Capps was found with drugs on him, and that could have been his motive to escape officers.
White says troopers did not know the child was in the car until they walked up to it after the shooting. He says had they known, it might have changed their actions, but cannot say for sure.
White says the investigation into the chase and crash is ongoing.
The Texas Rangers are now investigating the use of force, standard procedure for DPS following a case like this.
