Bystander Dies During Fort Worth Police Chase
FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM/AP) - A motorcyclist is dead after his bike was slammed from behind by a pickup truck driver who was fleeing from a Fort Worth police officer. The incident happened in the 2800 block of Alta Mere Drive.
A patrol officer began the pursuit after spotting the truck speeding and driving recklessly Wednesday evening. It ended when the driver lost control making a turn, spun out and struck the man on a motorcycle so hard that debris from the wreck littered the crash site for about 100 yards.
Lt. F.V. Gilbert with the Fort Worth Police Department told the Fort Worth Star-Telegram that the driver then got out of his wrecked truck and tried to run away on foot, but he was caught by police. The suspect was later identified as Seth Michael Donnelly. He is under guard at a local hospital.
Police charged Donnelly with intoxicated manslaughter with a vehicle. He had previously been arrested for marijuana possession in 2007 and again for driving while intoxicated in 2009.
The name of the motorcyclist who was killed was not immediately available.
