Bush Hosting Golf Tournament For Wounded Vets
IRVING (AP/KRLD) -- Former President George W. Bush is hosting a golf tournament in Irving this week for U.S. military members wounded in Iraq and Afghanistan.
The two-day tournament, called the Warrior Open, begins Monday at the Las Colinas Country Club. Mr. Bush called the tournament a chance to tell veterans "We care for you."
Tickets are $10 for the public and free to members of the military.
The former president said, "I support our veterans in any way I can and one way is to honor these wounded vets with this golf tournament its very important for our country to continue to support our vets and I will the best I can."
Mr. Bush, who hosted a mountain bike ride in the spring in West Texas for wounded military members, said such events help him show the troops that he still cares. He said such events also "show Americans the character of those who have worn or are still wearing our uniform."
On Sunday, George W. Bush participated in a practice round with the veterans who played Monday, including Brian Denarski, who was severly wounded in 2006. "It means a lot, given what I've been through and what my family's been through, and how far we've come," says Denarski.

The Warrior Open Golf Tournament continues through Tuesday.
Mr. Bush and former first lady Laura Bush moved to Dallas after he left office in 2009. The George W. Bush Presidential Center, which will include his library and a policy institute, is set to be completed by spring 2013 on the Southern Methodist University campus.
