Bus Crash Victims & Witnesses Describe Chaotic Scene
IRVING (CBS 11 NEWS) - Hundreds of drivers passed by the accident scene of the overturned Cardinal Coach Lines Tour bus on State Highway 161 near Belt Line Road.
One man, who didn't want to use his name, happened upon the accident moments after it happened.
"I was going to Walmart when it went down. I came by just after it happened," he said.
What he saw was frightening.
"It freaked me out. Scary. Scary. Very scary," he said.
It was pandemonium. More than an hour after it happened, he still had not left the spot where he had pulled over to watch events unfold.
"Seeing something like this, being a military veteran and serving overseas, it's just chaos," he said.
Emergency vehicles from Irving, Grapevine and Coppell swarmed the area.
"First thing when you have a scene like this, it's chaotic," said Dr. Paul Pepe.
Dr. Pepe, with UT Southwestern Medical Center Confirmed two dead early on.
"Three or four people who could be considered critical and several dozen that were minor injuries, bruises and bumps, but being elderly, we're very concerned about them," he said.
One of them was Jo Ann, who describes what it was like when the bus flipped over.
"Kind of like a dream. Things just kind of go by you like you're in a movie. But then you realize, it's you," she said.
"When things settled down, people laying everywhere," she said.
Jo Ann lost consciousness at some point during the accident. Because she remembers being pulled out of the bus hatch.
She had been taken to Baylor Medical Center at Irving and released hours later. She was taken by hospital shuttle to the parking lot where she had parked her car in Bedford to board the tour bus.
Friends were waiting for her there. Jo Ann was able to walk to their car, though slowly.
