Burglar Steals, Crashes Soldiers Truck In Chase
FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - A suspected burglar in Tarrant County is in custody after evading police and crashing in an active-duty soldiers stolen pickup truck.
Police spotted the man burglarizing a storage facility on Old Decatur Road around 8:00 a.m. on Monday morning. When police attempted to pull the vehicle over, the man drove through a fence and led police on a brief chase. As police followed, the man lost control and crashed the vehicle into a parked car in the parking lot of the MicroTel Inn near North Beach Street and I-820.
The suspect attempted to escape the pursuing officer by traveling southbound in a northbound lane on Beach Street. The fleeing vehicle crossed a median and hopped the curb before hitting the parked car. The suspect then surrendered without incident, complaining of whiplash.
Police believe the man broke into several storage units at the facility. A number of items were recovered in the bed of the stolen truck.
"Just a multitude of things," said Sheriff's Lieutenant Tom Hathorn. "Hand tools, compressors - pretty much anything and everything you can load in the back of a truck."
The suspect was arrested and is now in jail.
