Boys Can't Be Cub Scouts Because Of Faith
Just days after a North Texas father was told he can't be a Cub Scout leader because he's gay, a mom and dad in North Carolina got the same message because of their faith.
Jeremy and Jodie Stokes are Mormons. Their sons signed up with a Cub Scout pack that meets at Christ Covenant Church near Charlotte. That Presbyterian congregation says it doesn't consider the Stokes' to be real Christians.
The church is part of the Presbyterian Church in America, which describes itself as a conservative, evangelical denomination. A Scout leader in North Carolina says the church is within its rights.
In our area, Jon Langbert of University Park has been told he can continue doing fundraisers for Cub Scout Pack 70, but, because he's gay, he can no longer wear the Scout leader's shirt.
