Boyfriend Wanted In Grand Prairie Cold Case

GRAND PRAIRIE (CBSDFW.COM) - Grand Prairie Police are asking for the public's help in finding a man wanted for murder.  Gerardo Castanon-Banuelos was found dead at a park on January 23 of last year.  The information gathered by police shocked Banuelos' family.

Grand Prairie Police have issued an arrest warrant for 34-year-old Luis Manuel Gonzales, Banuelos' boyfriend.

Detectives believe the victim was trying to break up with Gonzales.  Investigators spoke to him several times over the telephone.  But each time they invited Gonzales to come to the police station to talk to them, he always had a reason he couldn't make it.

"I believe they were in a confrontation, him and Luis were having some sort of argument, disagreement, and I believe that Luis just pulled out a weapon and shot him" says Detective H. Wester.  "I believe he shot him in the vehicle."

Witnesses told police they last saw the victim coming out of a fitness center in Arlington.  Family members say in the week that followed Banuelos' murder, Gonzales came to their home every day, with food, and talking to them about Banuelos.

"I know he was his boyfriend, because he told me that" says Manuel Banuelos, the victim's brother.

"I feel bad because he was my brother" says Ernesto Banuelos, the other brother of the victim.
