Bond Posted For Hit & Run Suspect, Apology Issued
DALLAS COUNTY (CBSDFW.COM) - The teacher arrested for the hit and run death of a 6-year-old boy is out of jail and has issued an apology.
Tammy Lowe was released from the Dallas County Jail just before 11 a.m. Lowe, who didn't speak as she walked out, left the facility with her husband.
The 53-year-old woman is charged with Manslaughter and Failure to Stop and Render Aid in the death of John Raidy.
Lowe's lawyer had attempted to get Lowe released Friday afternoon, but a payment technicality over the checks, covering her $125,000 bond, kept her in jail over the weekend.
Monday morning Lowe's attorneys issued a press released statement that said in part, "Our, client, Tammy Lowe, would like to express her deep sorrow to the family of John Raidy for their tragic loss. In the days ahead her legal team will attempt to resolve her legal problems by discussion with the Dallas County District Attorney."
Attorney Cameron Gray said if a resolution cannot be achieved by agreement then the matter would be submitted to a jury.
According to Grand Prairie police, Lowe ran a light that had been red for 14 seconds before hitting Raidy as he crossed the street. Raidy was in a crosswalk, with his mother just a few steps behind pushing his younger sister in a stroller.
Lowe, who never stopped after hitting the child, turned herself in at the Grand Prairie police station five days later. A police affidavit said while Lowe admitted her involvement in the accident, she refused to a formal police interview.
Lowe had been a certified 7th grade Social Studies teacher at Adams Middle School, but resigned the same day she turned herself in to police. Lowe had been with the Grand Prairie ISD since the 1996-1997 school year.
