Bond Hearing For Plano Bomb Suspect Postponed
SHERMAN (CBSDFW.COM) – A federal judge in Sherman Thursday postponed a bond hearing for the Plano man accused of setting off a bomb while tampering with a gas line until an interpreter could be found to help his parents testify.
Anson Chi, 33, waved to a CBS 11 camera and smiled from the back of a police car before he was shuttled back to jail. His arm was in a cast and one eye appeared to be swollen shut from injuries he sustained in the explosion earlier this month.
The judge postponed the bond hearing until a Mandarin interpreter could be found for Chi's parents, who are each scheduled to testify.
In a criminal complaint, federal investigators accuse Chi of knowingly possessing materials used to make a bomb. When the explosion went off on June 17, a natural gas line was also damaged.
During a search that lasted more than a day, FBI investigators found bomb-making materials in Chi's home. Anti-government videos have also surfaced and the Anti-Defamation League said it believes Chi was involved in a tax protest movement.
