Bond Doubled For Garland Man Accused Of Setting Clerk On Fire

GARLAND (1080 KRLD) – The man accused of setting an elderly Garland store clerk on fire appeared in court Wednesday.

A judge doubled Matthew Johnson's bond, bringing it to $1 million. The 36-year-old is accused of robbing a Fina gas station last Sunday and dousing its 76-year-old clerk with a flammable liquid.

Authorities say Johnson set the woman aflame, causing severe burns over 40 percent of her body. Nancy Harris remains in critical condition Wednesday.

Chase Bank is accepting donations for the Nancy J. Harris Donation Fund of Garland Texas. To donate, visit a Chase bank and give the clerk the last four digits of the account: 5731.
