Body Of Teen Recovered From Brazos River In Palo Pinto County

PALO PINTO COUNTY (CBSDFW.COM) - Rescuers in Palo Pinto County have recovered the body of a teenager who drowned in the Brazos River.
Authorities say they received a call about a possible drowning near a canoe rental business very early Tuesday morning. Deputies were told that several friends were out for a late-night swim when 19-year-old Montana Christopher jumped from a large rock, on the south bank, and went under trying to swim across the river channel.
Water on the Brazos, like many other lakes and river in North Texas, is exceptionally high and current very strong because of a recent Possum Kingdom Lake flood gate water release.
Palo Pinto County Sheriff's and Texas Parks and Wildlife Game Warden's started a search and rescue operation at first-light and continued all day. They called off the search late in the evening.
Rescuers resumed searching at first-light on Wednesday and located Christopher, deceased, less than two miles downstream from where it was reported the boy jumped in the river. The family of the Mineral Wells teen was notified immediately.
The Palo Pinto County Justice of the Peace has requested that an autopsy be performed at the Dallas County Medical Examiner's Office.
