Missing Teen Found In Possum Kingdom Lake
COPPELL (CBSDFW.COM) - Search teams recovered the body of 17-year-old Jacob Logan at Possum Kingdom Lake, shortly after 9:00 p.m. on Thursday night. The Coppell High School football player went missing Sunday afternoon, after diving from a cliff into the murky lake, located about 80 miles west of Fort Worth.
Logan's body was transported to the Tarrant County Medical Examiner and his family has been notified. Officials with the Brazos River Authority did not release many details about the recovery, other than to say that the body was found near the base of the cliff from which he jumped, about 64 feet below the surface.
Logan was a wide receiver for Coppell High School, ranked fourth in The Associated Press Class 5A football poll. The trip to Possum Kingdom Lake was a celebration of the team's win last Friday night. The team is set to play again this Friday night -- the first game since Logan disappeared. Fellow classmates plan to release orange and blue balloons in his honor at the next home game.
More than 300 people gathered at Coppell's High School stadium on the night that he disappeared, for a prayer vigil for the missing teen. "He was one of those kids," said Coppell parent Kim James. "I was sitting up there watching him play football. I'm like, that guy's going somewhere. He is going somewhere. You could just tell he was just one of those kids. I think, one of those stars, bright stars, that burn so bright... and then they die young."
"He was one of my best friends growing up," said Coppell student Tyler Jones. "Tough to grasp. He was Superman. He was the best at everything he ever did -- best football player, best basketball player, best baseball player."
After learning of the search team's recovery, Coppell High School football coach Joe McBride tweeted, "Jacob has been found... have peace and get sleep." Memorial services for Logan have not yet been announced.
