Body In Burning SUV Linked To Dead Teen
FORT WORTH (AP/CBSDFW) - A man in whose North Texas home a teenage girl was killed in a failed robbery has, himself, been found dead in a burning sport utility vehicle.
The Johnson County Sheriff's Office says firefighters found the body of 44-year-old Robert Excell Dodson II in the flaming vehicle Sunday night 25 miles southwest of Fort Worth. "At that point we closed it as a crime scene to investigate it as a crime to see what was going on," said Johnson County Sheriff's Lt. Tim Jones.
Jones says the death was a homicide but wouldn't specify the cause.
It was Dodson who found 17-year-old Claudia Hidic dead of a gunshot wound on the back doorstep of Dodson's Fort Worth home on June 28. Terrance Crumley and Curtis Fortenberry have been indicted on capital murder charges. Investigators later concluded Hidic was caught in the crossfire in an attempted home robbery she had conceived.
No charges were filed against Dodson even though drug paraphernalia including an off-white powder and scales were found in Dodson's home.
Investigators aren't releasing any details about how Dodson was murdered or if its related to Hidic's case, but the ties are clear. "We've reached out to Fort Worth PD as well as the Tarrant County Medical Examiner as well as the Tarrant County District Attorney's Office," said Jones.
