Bodies Found In Frisco Home Where Boy Died
FRISCO (CBSDFW.COM) - Two bodies were discovered on Wednesday afternoon at the same Frisco house where a 10-year-old boy was found dead earlier this year. Sources have said that the two victims are Sumeet and Pallavi Dhawan, the boy's parents, but that information has not been confirmed by authorities.
Police were called to the home, located in the 15000 block of Mountain View Lane, about a possible drowning. When officers arrived, they found a woman's body in the backyard swimming pool and a man's body inside of the house. Sumeet and Pallavi Dhawan are the only two people known to be living at this location.
A neighbor noticed that the home's back door had been left open since Tuesday. Gunshots were also heard in the neighborhood over the weekend, but people thought it was dove hunters in a nearby field. Those shots were never reported to the authorities. It is not clear how long the two victims have been dead.
"It's kind of unbelievable something like this would happen in our community," said neighbor Lonnie Moore.
Back in January, police charged Pallavi Dhawan with killing her son, but the mother has always maintained her innocence. She testified in front of a Collin County grand jury last month. The attorney representing Dhawan said that he had just spoken to the couple over the weekend, and cannot believe what has now happened.
Pallavi Dhawan had said that her son died from a pre-existing medical condition, and that she preserved his body according to the Hindu customs, in order allow her husband time to return home from a trip. An autopsy later backed up the mother's claims, stating that the child most likely died from natural causes. Arnav Dhawan, a fifth-grade student at Isbell Elementary School, was born with a brain and skull that did not fully develop.
The child's school called Sumeet Dhawan after he had been missing from class for several days. When the father returned home, he called police to say that he was concerned about his wife and son. Pallavi Dhawan pointed authorities to a locked bedroom door, where Arnav's body was found in a dry bathtub, wrapped in cloth and surrounded by ice packs.
The family said that, according to their religious customs, last rights would have been performed with the father present and the child would have then been cremated. Since their son's death, the couple said that they have felt singled out because of cultural bias, and that police simply did not understand their Hindu traditions.
In addition to the murder investigation, the couple had been under martial and financial strain. Sumeet Dhawan also allegedly told police that his wife was coping with mental problems. Sources said that the couple had been trying to travel to India, but a judge denied their request and forced them to surrender their passports.
