GARLAND (CBSDFW.COM) – About 100 bikers responded to a Rowlett man's request on Facebook to help his cancer-stricken wife Monday morning.

The outpouring of support was more than the ten or 15 bikers Doug Patterson expected to escort his wife Amy to the hospital for her double mastectomy.

"I am so much calmer than I thought I was going to be when this day came," she said. "Just because of everyone's support and it's really helping me, it's helping my husband, and it's helping my family."

Amy Patterson suffers from stage 3 breast cancer. Her husband wanted her surrounded by the things she loves on this crucial day, and Amy adores motorcycles.

The 100 or so philanthropic bikers – all strangers to the family -- joined the Pattersons' police escort from their home in Rowlett to the hospital in Garland.

The couple has a 2-year-old son and said the outpouring of love has touched the whole family.
