Big Traffic Switch At Dallas Horseshoe Project

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - The drive heading east into Dallas could look very different Tuesday morning because of some changes along Interstate-30, part of the Dallas Horseshoe Project. The big switch is supposed to help drivers who are heading into downtown, but it could cause confusion at first.

Instead of staying in the lefthand lane, drivers will now need to be in the two righthand lanes. And they will need to be there a lot earlier than before.

The traffic shift begins along eastbound Interstate-30 near Sylvan Avenue. From there, commuters who need to continue onto northbound or southbound Interstate-35E, Riverfront Boulevard or the Commerce Street exit all need to stay in the righthand two lanes.

Drivers heading toward downtown Dallas will now get a better glimpse of the upcoming Margaret McDermott Bridge, which is under construction and now has one of its two arches in place.

Meanwhile, those used to staying on the right, in order to remain on eastbound Interstate-30, will now need to be on the left.

The change actually started on Saturday night, but the extended Labor Day weekend means that Tuesday will be the first time for many commuters to experience these traffic changes. Any drivers who need to go through this part of Dallas are advised to give themselves some extra time, as the switch might lead to confused drivers and traffic backups for the next few days.

The Dallas Horseshoe project is expected to be completed in 2017.
