Big Lane Shifts In Downtown Dallas This Weekend

DALLAS (CBS11) - If you think driving through downtown Dallas is confusing now - buckle your seat belt!
More changes are coming this weekend as part of the Horseshoe Project around the Mixmaster, one of the most congested roadways in Texas.
The Dallas Mixmaster can be an intimidating interchange on the best of days. Now, more changes will be here by Saturday morning.
First, the southbound I-35E exit to eastbound I-30 will be shifted to the right. If you're continuing on I-35 south, you'll use the two left lanes. That begins Friday at 11:00 p.m.
And a second traffic shift starts Saturday. If you're driving from eastbound I-30, you'll be shifted onto a new right side connection toward the Mixmaster.
The existing left connection will be closed, and the Beckley exit and Sylvan on-ramp will switch places. It's so crews can open new pavement and bridge sections in the area - part of the nearly $800 million Dallas Horseshoe Project. And while drivers may not love the process, they say they're looking forward to the end result.
"Things change, and you've got to make the roads and the infrastructure better, so whatever to make it faster and make it better in the long run, I'm all for it," says driver Ryan Wilson.
The changes starting the weekend will last through the late fall or early next year.
The entire project is scheduled to be finished by next summer.
