Bidders Preparing For Texas Rangers Auction
Bidder up!
The Texas Rangers go on the auction block in federal bankruptcy court Wednesday in one of the most contentious sales of an American professional sports team. The only other Major League Baseball team sold this way was the Orioles in 1993.
The bidding is expected to pit Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban against MLB's favored bidder, a group led by Rangers president Nolan Ryan and Pittsburgh sports attorney Chuck Greenberg.
Houston businessman Jim Crane, whose bid on the team was rejected during last year's original bidding process, may join Cuban's group or submit his own bid by Tuesday night's deadline.
Following days of speculation, Fox said Tuesday that it will not bid on the Rangers. Fox Sports Southwest has a contract for Rangers' TV rights.
