Fashion has played an integral part in the development of women's history over the past hundred years. Fashion, while noted as an art form, is also a means by which an individual can wholly express themselves. Women have contributed greatly both financially and socially to the evolution of the fashion and beauty industry and continue to make waves as to what constitutes the vague expression of style. On March 13, NBC Fashion Star designer Oscar Fierro and Project Runway Season 11 designer James Martinez will showcase their designs during Runway at Dallas' historical Belo Mansion. This star-studded event will also feature collections by guest designers Ella de Leon, Shawn D. Florence, Alice Stella Kelsey, Mario Alberto Gallegos and Andre Terry. If you want to commemorate women's fashion, Runway is a definite event to attend.

The University of Texas at Arlington will host its sixth annual Women in Leadership Summit on March 23. In an effort to foster knowledge and awareness regarding the significant impacts that women have had on the nation's history, UTA's Women in Leadership group will host a summit focused on furthering the leadership skills of young women who can emerge as the next set of leaders for this society. The summit will include informative workshops, team building activities, small group discussions and a keynote speaker. Additionally, UTA's Women in Leadership group will also participate in an annual service project in honor of Women's History Month. More information is available on the campus website.

The Girl Scouts organization has contributed heavily to the development of small girls and young women over the years. This humble and notable group of women and girls are worthy of acknowledgement during Women's History Month based on the achievements and milestones that have been reached over the last several decades. Solely devoted to the concepts of instilling confidence and integrity with each Girl Scout, this national organization has contributed greatly to the foundation of some of this nation's top women in leadership. The Girl Scouts were founded in 1912 on March 12th by Juliette Gordon with a starting troop of 18 girls. In honor of the birth of this remarkable organization, a week of events have been scheduled for March 10, 2013 through March 16, 2013 to celebrate the Girl Scouts including Girl Scout Sabbath.

Genesis Women's Shelter is one of the many non-profit organizations in DFW devoted to assisting women and their children who have encountered some form of abuse in their relationships. With services ranging from a 24-hour hotline to outreach programming, Genesis Women's Shelter shows tremendous dedication to healing the lives of battered women and their children. For those looking to serve during Women's History Month, Genesis Women's Shelter offers a wide variety of volunteer opportunities such as services for the 24-hour hotline, working in the children's department or legal assistance. All volunteers must attend orientation and volunteer training.

The Fort Worth Library has archived a massive collection of of materials and documents in special recognition of Women's History Month. The collection was initiated in 2001 by the Hattitude...Hats Off to Women Association in Fort Worth for the primary objective of honoring and recognizing significant contributions that women have made in history. Annual events and programs will be showcased by Hattitude along with public viewings of the extensive archive collection. The Women's History Month Collection dates from 2001-2009 and includes photographs, news articles, scrapbooks and other historical remnants of memorable times in history.
