Best Upcoming Dinner Theater Shows In DFW

Theater and dinner make an ideal match, so why not combine the two into one wildly entertaining night out on the town? From whodunnit murder mysteries and madcap comedy spoofs to an entire evening of non-stop jousting action, here are five metroplex spots where you can eat, drink and even be a part of the show.

www.texasstardinnertheater.comFor a rollicking adventure straight out of the Wild West, head over to Texas Star Dinner Theater to catch one of Lone Star Mysteries' legendary murder mystery shows. The professional 90-minute productions, complete with cowboys, outlaws and gunfights — are centered around Fort Worth's rough-and-tumble frontier days with the action taking place among the tables rather than on a stage. Audience participation is encouraged by making each table a team and giving everyone the opportunity to interrogate the murder suspects. Dinner, which is included in the ticket price of $59 per person, offers options ranging from stuffed eggplant pasta to grilled chicken and tilapia. The current show, "Missed Fortune," runs every Friday and Saturday night until Nov. 14, 2015.

In this scenario, the actors are disguised as guests, therefor making everyone a potential suspect. The plot unravels over a four-course menu that includes everything from salad and chicken fried steak to pasta and peach cobbler. Along with special holiday themed shows for New Years Eve and Valentines, there's a dinner show event held every Saturday at Fair Park's Old Mill Inn. Advance tickets can be purchased for $54 per person.

www.thedinnerdetective.comBilled as America's largest interactive murder mystery dinner show, The Dinner Detective takes on the same modus operandi as Murder Mystery Texas, where guests have no way of knowing whether their table mates are other guests or part of the cast of improvisers. The event kicks off with an hors d'oeuvre reception and a little murder amongst friends. The pandemonium ensues over three more courses of eatables, which range from salad to choices of chicken piccata, pan seared fish and Asian vegetable stir fry. At the end of the evening, the top sleuth who correctly guesses the culprit is awarded with a prize package. The big event takes place every Saturday at downtown Dallas' Crowne Plaza Hotel. Ticket prices go for $59.95 per person, but you can regularly find discounts offered on sites like Groupon and Living Social.

www.pocketsandwich.comFor over thirty years, this Dallas institution has been dishing up bites, booze and some of the most brilliant comedic shows in the metroplex. While the place is most known for its popcorn slinging melodramas, including its current sci-fi spoof Chrono Cops: Elite Time Patrol, the theatre also turns out everything from musicals and improv to burlesque shows and occasional dramas. It also happens to be one of the city's most affordable entertainment options with ticket prices ranging from $12-25 a show. Though food isn't included with admission, the options are all priced under $8 and cover everything from nachos to salads, wraps and of course, pocket sandwiches. Shows run Thursday through Sunday nights, and seats are offered on a first come, first served basis.
Medieval Times Dinner & Tournament
2021 N. Stemmons
Dallas, TX 75207
(214) 761-1801
www.medievaltimes.comOnly at Medieval Times can you wear paper crowns, eat a four-course meal with your hands and cheer on a bunch of jousting knights on horseback. Sure, it's gimmicky, but kids and even adults get a kick out of the whole fantasy-like experience. The only downside is the admission price of $60.95 for adults and $36.95 for children (ages 3-12). But never fear, there are always discounted tickets on offer from places like Groupon and even on the company's own website. On a positive note, Medieval Times runs multiple shows every day of the week, making it an easy last minute option for an entertaining night out.
