Upcoming Children's Shows In DFW

Children's theater productions in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area aren't like decades past. They are full-scale, colorful productions that delight not just the child, but also the adult that takes them. Some theaters offer classes whereby the creative seed might be planted and sown. Here are a few upcoming theater productions set for this summer and fall.

When it comes to children's productions, The Dallas Children's Theater is one of the crown jewels of theater. The 2014-2015 season starts with "Rapunzel! Rapunzel! A Very Hairy Fairy Tale." This production is appropriate for ages four on up and takes on a hilarious musical spin to the classic story.

Based on Charles Schultz's "Peanuts" comic, children of all ages can enjoy the ups and downs of a day in the life of Charlie Brown. From the baseball field through holidays like Valentine's Day, viewers get to enjoy the funny pitfalls of Charlie's life along with his sidekicks Snoopy, Woodstock, Lucy, Linus, Schroeder and Sally.

Many fairy tales end with "they lived happily ever after." Did you ever wonder what entails happily ever after? Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine spin a variety of Grimm's classic fairy tales into a musical for this family-friendly production. The Repertory Company Theatre offers classes for more experienced acting students ages 10 to 17 for the production of "In The Woods."

This musical by the creators of "Rapunzel! Rapunzel! A Very Hairy Fairy Tale" is an interesting tale of Snow White as she prepares for her 18th birthday ball. The evil queen wants to be the fairest of them all and Snow White flees to the forest for her safety. The musical is suitable for all ages.

For the child who wants to grow their theatrical talents, Genesis Children's Theater offers classes with a performance that displays the culmination of training at the end of the week. The "Frostbite" musical will be practiced and performed through children's classes, which are offered in the morning for grades two to four and the afternoon for grades five to eight. The children will learn basic acting skills along with how to sing and dance.

A traveling theater, Children's Playhouse through Murder Mystery Players offers three different interactive productions. "Armadillo Kids to the Rescue" is a melodrama where kids try to save the only school in Armadillo County from Badly Meanly and his sidekick Ruckus Foolhead. Meanly and Foolhead want to close the school to look for oil. The sheriff enlists the help of children to save the school. In "Mission Task Force," children become special agents and work as a team to collect clues and complete challenges to figure out the puzzle of the mission. In "Revenge of the Super Human Heroes," 10 children get to play super heroes with unique super powers as part of Olympia Universe's battle against The Penciler. Contact the Ft.
