Best Up & Coming DFW Bands To Check Out In 2016

While the big national acts may take center stage, all of those bands were a local band at one time. There are a lot of local bands in the Dallas area featuring all kinds of good music. A lot of them are pretty good, and some are as good as any national act; they just need to be discovered. Here are a few bands that you should see at some point this year, and you never know when one of them will make it big.
Don't Tell Mama
www.donttellmamaband.orgThis is a band that has been around for a few years, and they have a great future, whether they get beyond Texas or not. This band is a "horn" band, with trumpets and saxophones. They also have a tight rhythm section with solid guitars and bass. The band is a high energy outfit that covers the classic rock era from the 60s through the 80s. You might hear "Brown Eyed Girl" by Van Morrison, something from the Beatles, Lynyrd Skynyrd or even some disco beats thrown in here and there.
Identity Theft Band
www.idtband.comThis is a new band that has only been together a year or so, made up of college age people. They are a high energy band, playing the songs you hear on the radio, and they are always up to date with the songs at the top of the charts. They play a lot of weddings and have become stereotyped as a wedding band, but they are starting to play some clubs and could be at a public venue at any time.
War Party

They have been putting out a lot of live music in the Dallas area and have made some recordings that have done well regionally. They are a fun band to see. They have a lot of their own music, characterized by eclectic rock and roll, a little country and some classic 60s era material here and there. A highly entertaining band that people of all ages will enjoy, they have a bit of punk flavor as well, and are most likely playing somewhere near you in Fort Worth.

Thieving Birds
thievingbirdsmusic.comThis band plays rock, blues and Texas music. They have been together since 2011 and put out a lot of original material. Their lead guitarist left to spend more time with his family in 2015, but they already have a replacement and have not missed a beat. They are essentially a country-rock band, but have gotten dirtier and greasier and better in recent years. They released a new album in 2015, with more of a rock flavor. While their albums are good, they are best heard during a live performance, where their energy quickly becomes contagious.
The Calamity Janes

Three sisters from Waxahatchie keep Texas music alive. Their smooth harmonies blend country, swing and blues, the very essence of Texas music. Their motto is "Sweet as honey, Bad as Hell," and their music lives up to that saying. There is also some bluegrass thrown in here and there, and with a twang, they have entertained in North Texas for a few years. They have a few albums out and are planning more. This is a band you need to see, because they may make it big some day.
