In West Tawakoni, about an hour from Dallas, is a reading program that should not be missed. The Tawakoni Area Public Library has an amazing selection of books for your little reader. Your kids will get a reading journal where they will keep track of everything they read. Every time they hit a milestone of five books, they can bring their journal to the library to collect their prize for their hard work. But that's not all. There are Science Saturdays to look forward to. Science Saturdays feature a fun scientific experiment in which all can participate. Ready set Dallas! The Mayor's Summer Reading Club begins June 15 and goes until August 10. Each year, the Mayor's Summer Reading Club reaches out to the children in the DFW area. Your rapid readers will log hours either by hand or online to win weekly prizes for ages up to 18 years of age. If your writing wizard decides to get a little more creative, he or she can write book reviews or draw pictures to be entered into a grand prize drawing at the end of the program. Parents don't feel left out. Adults will be able to participate as well. Make it a family affair and log your hours alongside your child. Lead by example and blaze the road to reading.

Starting June 10, your child will have the opportunity to enjoy educational fun. SMU is offering over 60 one-week enrichment workshops for students from grades K-12. These multi-week courses provide participants from age 4 to adult with strategies to improve their reading skills.
