Long known as a Mecca for business, Dallas now also enjoys a reputation for its arts and culture scene, including its commitment to nurturing and developing future artists. Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts is the premier creative arts school in Dallas. Located in the Dallas Arts District, Booker T. Washington's sole mission is to provide a unique mix of arts education and academics; its program is nationally acclaimed and has been frequently cited as a model program throughout North America. The school is located in the historic Dallas Arts District, just blocks away from Dallas' finest museums and performance venues, including the Dallas Museum of Art, the Meyerson Symphony Center, the Crow Collection of Asian Art, and many more.

Although not specifically for young artists, the nonprofit Creative Arts Center (CAC) of Dallas offers some of the best schools for young artists in Dallas. The CAC offers classes and workshops year-round in various art disciplines and media, from clay sculpting and jewelry making to printmaking and photography. The CAC also frequently works with local school districts to create art outreach programs for Dallas-area school children and teens.

Dallas has a thriving musical theatre scene, and the Dallas Young Artists Summer Camp is devoted to creating a pipeline of unique talent for all of the many musical theatre opportunities in the area. The program offers not only education in vocal performance and acting, but also playwriting, set design and make-up artistry.

Although not technically a school, the Dallas Museum of Art hosts a number of educational classes and workshops specifically targeting children, including outreach programs for local schools and families. The annual Summer Art Camps include programs for children as young as age four, providing them with instruction in sculpture, photography, drawing, mixed media, and more.

Launched in 1994, Kid Art Dallas provides small-class instruction in drawing, painting, sculpture and mixed media. Classes are available for children as young as pre-K-aged, but adults are included as well, particularly in the popular Art & Coffee classes. Instruction is available during the school year from Monday to Saturday.
