Rainy days are the perfect opportunity to find new activities. Not every rainy day needs to be spent at home, curled up under a blanket. There are plenty of indoor activities around the area that let you get out of the house and explore something new. There are museums, theaters and wineries, just to name a few. When the next rainy North Texas day threatens to ruin your plans, take the opportunity to try out one of these activities.

This two-year-old addition to downtown Dallas has been a huge hit. The first few months that the Perot Museum was open, tickets had to be purchased weeks in advance. Demand has slowed a bit since then, but advanced tickets are still recommended, especially for weekends. Feel like creating your own virtual bird species? Have you ever launched a ping pong ball with your brain waves? There are some pretty cool hands-on science experiments in every corner of this place. There are age-specific activities for older children and adults, as well as the Moody Children's Museum for kids ages five and under.

Bass Hall is a large ornate theater in downtown Fort Worth. You can catch Broadway productions like "Green Day's American Idiot," artists like Suzy Bogguss and 1964, a highly acclaimed Beatles tribute band. Advanced tickets are required, but if you need some last-minute plans, just call the box office. You never know, you might score some last-minute seats to a phenomenal show. Originally built in 1947, the Inwood Theatre has become a landmark in Dallas. It has been refurbished and upgraded over the last few years, but always tries to stay true to its history. The most recent improvement was a theatre with comfortable seating in the form of couches, loveseats and beanbag chairs. The martini bar inside is also a good place to spend a rainy day. You can even take a martini with you if you want to watch a movie as you sip.

Times Ten Cellars is a winery in the Lakewood neighborhood of Dallas. The wines are made with grapes from the winery south of Alpine, Texas. Times Ten hosts several wedding receptions, bridal showers and birthday parties in one half of the winery. The other half is open for wine tastings or just a glass of wine with a friend. Tastings can be scheduled for groups if you'd like to try a variety of wine while learning a little something along the way.

The Kimball Art Museum is frequently overlooked by locals, but is actually home to a substantial collection of art. The touring exhibits that come through are significant as well. The permanent collection features works by Michelangelo, Caravaggio, Picasso and Degas. An indoor museum is good for a rainy day, but a free one is even better.
