Best Pulled Pork In DFW
Barbecue is a serious business here in the Lone Star State. Texas Barbeque usually means brisket, but lately Texans have been going hog wild over pulled pork butt. While the meat comes from the shoulder, rather then the butt, one thing is for sure — this slow cooked, shredded mass of meat is mighty tasty. Pulled pork has been showing up on many restaurant menus lately, but if you want to pig out on the best in DFW, try these places for swine that's mighty fine.

OinknMoo owner Dave Hunt knows his barbecue — after all, he use to live in the barbecue capital of the state. After moving up to Big D, he decided to take his Central Texas barbecue out on the road so folks around DFW could experience true BBQ bliss on a daily basis. What makes it so tasty is a combination of smoke and fire. Hunts says that he typically smokes an entire pork butt over apple and hickory wood for around 14 hours each day — and it's all done on the truck. Everything he serves, from sauces and rubs to sides and desserts, is handmade as well. Hunt serves pork in a variety of ways, including his succulent pulled pork sammies. However, you'll see it pop up in the pulled pork jalepeno poppers with BBQ dipping sauce, or stuffed inside quesadillas with caramelized onions. The sweet swine also gets married up with brisket, vinegar slaw and salsa to go into the soft tacos. In addition, Hunt says, he porks up his pinto beans and hatch green chili hominy, which is why it has that flawless smoky flavor. Follow the smell, or Hunt's tweets, to find his smokin' butt around town.

The good thing about Pecan Lodge is that it has outstanding barbecue — the bad thing is that everyone around the nation knows it. The place has been featured in countless magazines and TV shows, including Diners Drive-ins and Dives — and has a following miles long, lining up every Thursday through Sunday before they open at 11 a.m. It's worth the line though, because this place serves meat so masterfully smoked that it doesn't even need sauce to enhance the taste. The pulled pork is melt-in-your-mouth tender and comes with an apple cider vinegar sauce that complements its flavor perfectly, if you do want to go saucy. You can try it in a sandwich or buy it by the pound to savor at home, then you'll know why Southern Living Magazine calls Pecan Lodge the "The South's Best Butt."

People come from miles around to experience what has been called the best barbecue pit north of Lockhart, which speaks volumes. However, you don't need to know that in order to realize how great the food is, especially when it comes down to barbecued butt. The pulled pork, smoked out back in an Oyler pit with hickory wood, is a mouth watering delight that's filled with a robust smoky flavor. Try it in a sandwich or in a taco, but if you want to get down and dirty, order up the Big Nasty, a rich, melting concoction of fries smothered in chili with pulled pork, jalapenos and cheese.
Fat Cow BBQ
850 Valley Ridge Blvd., Suite 128
Lewisville, TX 75077
(972) 420-9398

This may be a tiny restaurant, but when it comes to taste, it's huge. The restaurant owners originally started out selling mouthwatering beef jerky at sporting events before branching out into the restaurant business a few years ago. Since then, their Texas style barbecue has been drawing customers in from all over the area. They probably should have named the place Fat Pig BBQ, because these oinkers come out of the fire tasting tender, juicy and smokingly delicious. The pulled pork comes in tacos, sandwiches and sliders, but one of the most popular ways to have it is in the Fat Jap, a dauntingly delicious dish of bacon wrapped smoked jalapenos, stuffed with pulled pork and cream cheese.
