When it comes to Independence Day celebrations in Dallas-Fort Worth, area residents get their choice of some of the nation's most notable Fourth of July fireworks displays in the country. The best places for fireworks, food, entertainment and fun this year promise exciting extras for every family.

Ranked nationally as one of the best places to watch fireworks according to American Pyrotechnics Association, USA Today, Travel + Leisure and The Wall Street Journal, Kaboomtown is a fun-filled event for the entire family. With free admission into Addison Circle, there will be live entertainment on the Dos Equis stage ending with an after party at 10:15 p.m. put on by Emerald City. Other event attractions include the Cavanaugh Historic Warbird flyover in which planes from the country's major wars as well as modern warplanes will maneuver both singularly and in formation along with aerial stunt plane acrobatics. There will also be a family fun zone with picnic games, face painting, an obstacle course and food concessions. Free and open to the public, Fair Park Fourth will have a 30 minute state-of-the-artfireworks program over the Cotton Bowl by Pyrotecnico, the nation's premiere fireworks company. Pyrotecnico host fireworks shows for the Superbowl and other major events around the world. There will be free admission to all the Fair Park museums between the hours of 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. the day of. Other activities include musical performances, carnival rides, games and 4th of July food favorites. Musical performances will include a Dallas Wind Symphony patriotic concert and a dancing water show at the fountains in the Esplanade. Fireworks will begin at 9:30 p.m.

Stake your claim near Lake Grapevine or any of Grapevine's attractions for a fireworks show at the lake. Park anywhere close to Lake Grapevine to get the best views. You can even park in the Gaylord Texan parking lot for a fee to get a good view of them. The city will close down Fairway Drive from State Highway 26 East and Silveron Boulevard at around 9:15 p.m. until the show is over. The fireworks display will go on rain or shine.

The Frisco Freedom Fest will include a Major League Soccer game and the Party in the Plaza. Party in the Plaza includes free admission and free parking for 4th of July family fun, Frisco style. Families may attend the Children's Expo that will feature two Euro bungees, a rock wall and bounce houses. There will also be a Community Stage with local entertainment and a a showcase of the Frisco fire and police departments in a special hometown hero exhibit. Other events include the Taste of Frisco with Frisco-area restaurants serving up gourmet restaurant fare samples. Additional fees will apply to some of the activities in the Children's Expo, concession stand items, the restaurant fare at the Taste of Frisco and for tickets to the FC Dallas versus Toronto FC soccer match.

Independence Fest 2012 will begin with a children's parade earlier in the day at the Lewisville ISD administration building located at 1800 Timber Creek Road in Flower Mound. Evening festivities continue at Bakersfield Park beginning at 5 p.m. with performances by Good Question and Mound of Sound. There will also be a vintage car show presented by Time Machine Car Shows, as well as an art exhibition, local vendors, food and drinks, and a free Kid's Zone with bounce houses and face painting. The highlight act of the evening is multi-platinum group Smash Mouth, playing hits like "Walkin on the Sun," "All Star" and the remake of the Monkees, "I'm a Believer." Smash Mouth will go on at 8:15 p.m.
