Best DFW Places To See Stand-Up Comedy

The Dallas/Fort Worth area has a lot of options for entertainment, including comedy clubs. Whether it is stand up comedy or improv troupes getting in front of a crowd to perform their unique style of comedy, there are plenty of options to choose from. These DFW area clubs also offer a great chance for open mic nights and many of them host some of the world's biggest, most well-known stand-up comedians as well. Here is a look at five of the DFW area's best places to go if you want to see the best in stand up comedy.
Backdoor Comedy Club

www.backdoorcomedy.comLocated just seven minutes from downtown Dallas, the Backdoor Comedy Club was founded by comedians Jan Norton and Linda Stogner. For long-time Dallas comedy fans, this is the same club that has been located in two pizza restaurants, two bowling alleys, a feed store, a pair of taverns and in Deep Ellum. Now located in the Doubletree Hotel, the Dallas Observer named the club the hottest showcase for stand-up comedy in the southwest. They have featured comedians from Last Comic Standing as well as comics seen on Comedy Central and BET.

If anything makes this club standout, it is the fact that they have a state-approved defensive driving course that is actually taught by professional comedians. Of course, there is something for everyone else who loves comedy as well, as they have shows featuring the top Dallas and national touring comics, such as Brian Posehn, Full House veteran Dave Coulier, and Saved By The Bell's Screech himself, Dustin Diamond. Thursday shows are always free and Wednesday nights are open mic night for aspiring stand up comedians.

They offer shows five nights a week and every show is comedy related, whether it is stand up, sketch or improv. It is also important to know that this is an adult-only comedy club, as most shows are PG-13 and R-rated. As for the training center, they offer classes seven days a week, and students get a chance to audition for the improv troupes. This isn't just for stand-up comedians, as musical concerts and more also take place here. It is a great place to see some of the nation's best stand-up comedians, as well, if you want to see big names like Patton Oswalt, Lewis Black and Kathy Griffin.

www.pocketsandwich.comThe Pocket Sandwich Theatre opened in 1980 when two comedians branched out from the Dallas Repertory Theatre to start their own theatre. They opened up in a pocket sandwich shop and the rest is history. They were recently voted one of the top comedy clubs in the DFW area by readers of the Dallas Observer.
