The holiday season gives us the opportunity to come together as family but also as a community. Christmas caroling or wassailing is becoming a tradition in many communities across North Texas. From traditional Christmas carols to some new favorites, there is sure to be a group that brings this tradition to doorsteps this year. Check out this list to get involved in the timeless tradition of caroling this holiday season.

Located in Richardson, Texas and just minutes north of downtown Dallas, this community holds an annual association Christmas Caroling party. As part of this Christmas tradition, it also has home tours, bridge decorating and road median refreshes that include sculptures from the nearby University of Texas at Dallas that change out quarterly. The community, along with caroling, also has outdoor movie nights. On the evening of December 19th, 2013, the community will gather at a designated house and walk to pre-approved homes for Christmas caroling and will end the evening with a Christmas party.

In November, Mayor William D. Tate flipped the switch for more than one million Christmas lights to light up Grapevine's Main Street. Nightly through Christmas, from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m., the lights to life. The light shows are all choreographed to music and guests can sing along by the city's Christmas tree every night at the Town Square Gazebo. The event is free and open to the public.

Join the gang of DFW Adventures on the sidewalk outside of Patrizio's in Highland Park for an evening of caroling around Highland Park. The caroling route will take you from Highland Park Village down Douglas Avenue and wind its way through Livinston Avenue, Edmondson Avenue, Fairfax Avenue, Beverly Drive and Versailles Avenue. This event is free but the group is collecting new teddy bears or unwrapped presents from participants to benefit CCAKids for its annual holiday party for children with disabilities. Participants should wear warm clothing and comfortable shoes. Participants must RSVP to attend. They will be singing traditional favorites such as "Deck the Halls," "Jingle Bells" and many more. The Highland Park area also has very beautiful homes with immaculate Christmas decor so it's sure to be a treat.

Bring your friends and family or your choir group and sing along with the Dallas Bach Society on Saturday, December 21 for the performance of Handel's "Messiah." Handel's "Messiah" is popular during the Christmas season and is divided into three parts. This is a concert like no other and while it's a reprieve from traditional caroling, performing this popular choral oratorio during this Christmas season should become a new tradition. Last year's response for this sing-along was such a huge success that they had to bring it back again. Vocal grouping is separate for singers that know whether they are soprano, alto, tenor and bass in each of the pricing tiers. Tickets are available for purchase on the website and range from $25 to $50 with general and premium seating.
