Best DFW Places To Cut Your Christmas Tree

Now that Thanksgiving is out of the way, it's time to deck the halls out for Christmas. While plenty of area places offer pre-cut trees for the holidays, going to a tree farm to cut one down on your own is certainly a nice way to get everyone into the true spirit of the season. Don't worry about bringing the power tools, all you need to do is bundle up the kiddos and head out to these DFW Christmas tree farms where you'll find your perfect tree and make some happy memories at the same time. Guests here are set up with a bow saw and then taken by hayride to the fields to search for the ideal tree. Once cut, the tree is transported back to the main area for a shake down and a cleaning before being wrapped up neat and tidy for the journey home. The fun doesn't stop there though. A farm zoo, a maze, a shop and free apple cider provides just the right entertainment for a day of family fun. You can cut your own trees here for $5 and up per foot. And if you don't have cash on you, the farm also accepts checks and credit cards.

Along with a hayride through the forest to the tree field, guests are provided with saws and treated to a steaming cup of hot chocolate. For $5, children ride the kiddie train and play the bull ring toss until their heart's content. There's also a playground, a shop and a food concession stand in case you work up an appetite. Prices range from $7.50 to $10 per foot, plus $2 if you want it tied onto your vehicle. The farm also accepts all forms of payment and stays open daily through December 21. You only need to travel an hour east of DFW to get to this scenic spread filled with over 5,000 Virginia Pines. Not only will hayrides take you out to the fields, but there's also someone around to help in case your sawing skills need fine-tuning. You can rest assured that your new tree will get a good shaking and cleaning before being netted up for the drive to its new home. Along with a cup of coffee or hot apple cider, Santa will be hanging around on weekends providing plenty of photo-ops with the kids. And if you need to accessorize your new tree, there's a gift shop that will have it all covered. You can cut your own tree here through December 21 for $6.75 per foot. Cash, checks and major credit cards are accepted.

Here, you'll find an array of Leyland and Arizona Cypress trees primed in time for cutting season. There's no need to bring along anything but the kids, though don't count too much on them helping out— they'll likely be preoccupied with all of the free activities going on. Mainstay has everything from pedal karts, rides and zip lines to a three-story treehouse, a jumping pillow and even a dig excavation site. If you want to get in on all of the fun here, be sure to reserve a spot online by December 14.

Virginia Pines of all shapes and sizes reign at this Christmas tree farm, located an hour north of DFW. After all of the chopping is done, guests here can entertain themselves with everything from free apple cider to roasting marshmallows and hot dogs over a blazing fire. There's also a concession stand selling crafts and home-made wreaths in case you want to add more holiday cheer to your home decor. Cut down your perfect tree here for $3 to $7 per foot.
